ACLU Requests Records in County Grants to Religious Educational Group
After being contacted by the press about thousands of dollars in public funds being spent to support Life Perspectives’ religious educational programming, the ACLU filed a Public Records Request today calling for all documents regarding San Diego County financial support for the organization.
In this week’s issue of San Diego CityBeat, it was reported that over the past three years, San Diego County Supervisor Bill Horn has directed $80,000 in public funds to Life Perspectives, a La Mesa-based “Christian organization that provides pro-life educational materials to K-12 schools.”
The ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties is seeking this information because County financial support of religious programs could violate both the California Constitution and the U.S. Constitution.
The records requested are described in the ACLU’s letter to the San Diego Recorder/Clerk, below. A copy of the request was also sent to County Counsel and Supervisor Bill Horn.
The California Public Records Act requires a response to this request within ten days.
