In 1942, Fred Korematsu was an average 23-year-old California native working as a shipyard welder. He refused to obey Presidential Executive Order 9006, which sent 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry into internment camps. He lost his Supreme Court case in 1944, but finally achieved a victory 39 years later with the help of a new generation of Japanese American activists seeking his vindication and the assurance that such an injustice would never happen again.
The San Diego Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial Counties are pleased to present this Emmy Award winning documentary on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 12:30 pm at the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Library, 9005 Aero Drive, San Diego.
The film will be followed by comments from retired Judge Lillian Lim and Kevin Keenan, Executive Director, ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
