Peter Irons, a former ACLU national board member and a professor emeritus of political science at UCSD, will speak about civil liberties issues and read from his latest book, GOD ON TRIAL: Dispatches from America's Religious Battlefields on Thursday evening, May 24, 2007, 7 pm. The lecture and reading take place at The Book Works in Del Mar.

Irons is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a member of the Supreme Court bar. He is the author of fourteen books on the Supreme Court and constitutional litigation, including The Courage of Their Convictions, which surveys civil rights champions of recent history.

The President of the ACLU, Nadine Strossen says of God on Trial, "Peter Irons has once again demonstrated his unmatched skill at putting a human face on the Constitution. Americans on both sides of the 'wall of separation' between church and state will learn much from the accounts of recent battles over religion in this fascinating and fair-minded book."
