The Pornography of Power: How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America

Monday, July 28, 7 - 9 pm
Lyceum Theater at Horton Plaza
[Directions]
Downtown San Diego

“One of the best reporters of our time.” -- Joan Didion

Robert Scheer has built a reputation for strong social and political writing over his 40 years as a journalist. His columns appear in newspapers across the country, and his in-depth interviews make headlines. He conducted the famous Playboy interview in which Jimmy Carter confessed to the lust in his heart. Scheer also interviewed Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and many other prominent political and cultural figures during his decades at the Los Angeles Times. He writes a nationally-syndicated column now based at the San Francisco Chronicle, and co-hosts the NPR radio show, “Left, Right and Center.” He is the editor-in-chief of Truthdig.com.

Scheer will discuss The Pornography of Power, an examination of American foreign policy, the quiet expansion of our military presence throughout the world, the destructive influence of America’s military-industrial complex, and corporate profiteering in Iraq.

Like our John Dean lecture of several years ago, we expect this terrific talk to fill up fast. Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Scheer will sign copies of The Pornography of Power at the conclusion of his talk. Copies will be available for purchase at the event.

The Lyceum will validate parking at Horton Plaza for up to four hours.
