Each year, members of the legal community in San Diego & Imperial counties show their support for the essential work of the ACLU through a financial contribution equal to one or two billable hours.

Attorneys understand the advocacy it takes to push our legal system to do more good, more often.

That’s why prominent attorneys have always supported the ACLU—from Clarence Darrow in the ACLU-led Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925 to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s formation of the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project in 1972. ACLU legal victories over the past century have shaped the rights we take for granted today. We’ve often been vilified for fighting for causes that were extremely unpopular at the time, such as our challenge to the Japanese Internment only eight months after Pearl Harbor, and our work for LGBT rights, which, in 2006, celebrated its 70th anniversary. But, history looks well on the stands we take.

Since 9/11—because of the Executive Branch’s determination to expand its power and ignore the rule of law—the stakes have gotten much higher. The ACLU has let no abuse go unanswered, and we have scored important victories.

The ACLU can’t do any of this vital work without you—our supporters in the legal community. Each year, through the Lawyers’ Campaign, San Diego and Imperial attorneys show their support by making a tax-deductible monetary contribution equal to one or two billable hours. Gifts are tax-deductible and can be made online.
